Aspects of Your Job That Excite You

It's easy to fall into a habit of thinking about the aspects of our jobs that annoy/frustrate/hold us back, because we live it day-to-day.

But what aspects of your current job (or a past job) in the data/social good world help you thrive and totally excite you?

For me, lately, it's been prospect research and the idea of enhancing the donor experience. We're moving into a lot of neat spaces and adding a more intimate (and immediate) touch to our donor stewardship. Stuff like that gets me firing on all cylinders and makes me look forward to the future of social good.

How about you? What parts of your job absolutely rock? ?

I'm blessed to say most of my job is pretty amazing. Since we upgraded to RE last year, I've enjoyed learning so many new things. Queries and Reports are so much fun. The challenge of helping create the tax letters this year (and writing up a how-to for it) was the icing on the cake! I love puzzles so I love the challenge that comes with figuring out how things work. And I'm still enjoying database cleanup as time permits! LOL

  • I absolutely love building Queries in RE… Although this can be extremely frustrating at time, when it finally works out its soooo rewarding!

  • Bobby, you ask some great questions! I get excited when clean data, especially if I cleaned it, reveals something to my co-workers that they didn't know before. But I also love that the org I work for is directly making an impact in our county and people are being supported in a way that really changes their lives.

Like many here, I enjoy finding the time to clean our data so it's more useful. Making time to learn new skills with our various products is always a great bonus because I feel I can be more productive and support my team better. Additionally, I have been helping users, both internally and new connections externally, learn where to find resources and just showing them the ropes. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge with others.

  • I love deciphering systems and how they work holistically. Because of that, I love brainstorming new efficient methods for our database, as well as manipulating data for prospect research and appeal performance analyses. I'm also a planner, so I really enjoy projecting revenue streams for donor pyramids and deep-diving into appeal segmentation. It's fun as long as the revenue goals handed to us are realistic.
