I want to thank the job posters here who are listing salary ranges. I think this shift we are seeing in salary transparency is fantastic for database managers, who are an integral part of any development team. We are valuable, and as such must demand fair pay for the technical and support services we provide.

Agreed, @Katherine Mannion! I shy away from language that “demands”, as sometimes nonprofit employers are really trying to do their best for their crew on a small budget. If equity is the goal, posting entry salaries is a false guarantee, as favored employees can still negotiate larger raises after they are hired.

But I do think it's a waste of everyone's time to have applicants clogging up the interview process, win the position, only to bail when they find out they can't live on the salary. The DBM prospect leaves with dashed hopes and lost energy, and the employer has to start the search process from scratch. By posting salary information, an employer is only going to get staffers that are actually interested in the benefits they're offering.
