Executive Director of Development- Erlanger Health System (Chattanooga)

The Executive Director for Development oversees the full range of fundraising programs for the Foundation. This includes overseeing major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, grateful giving by patients and family, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) fundraising efforts, special events and Erlanger fundraising campaigns. He/she will have responsibility for prospect 'moves' management, and oversee support for the volunteer committees involved in campaign fundraising.

The Executive Director of Development is responsible for creating, implementing, and oversight of:

  • Identifying, cultivating and soliciting major and planned gifts from individuals
  • Corporate, foundation, and organization giving
  • Major fundraising campaigns and campaign volunteers
  • Annual Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) fundraising
  • Marketing and closing planned gifts
  • Prospect management and assignment
  • Grateful giving program for patients and families
  • Acquisition of new donors and annual renewal of prior donors' gifts
  • Special events to cultivate prospective donors or for fundraising purpose

In concert with the President of the Foundation, the Executive Director of Development sets strategy for the development unit of the Foundation. Working with the Executive Director of Operations/Stewardship, the Executive Director of Development promotes best practices in all the above areas in support of organizational objectives. The position collaborates with colleagues throughout the organization in coordinating related activities.

Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field.

Experience:
Required:

  • 10 plus years of development experience required.
  • 4 years or more direct experience with Raiser's Edge or other similar functioning donor database
  • Experience in prospect management, major gift/annual giving; particular priority given to planned giving and campaign experience.
  • A history of raising six figure gifts and above.
  • Excellent analytical skills; strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities and complete tasks required.
  • Demonstrated success as an effective manager of people and projects. Ability to manage multiple projects in various stages of completion.
  • Strong work ethic coupled with the ability to be flexible in a dynamic work setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work and manage multiple priorities.
  • Have awareness of industry associations providing best practice knowledge, to include the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) and/or the Group on Institutional Advancement (GIA) of the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
  • Must exhibit a strong donor-centric focus. Knowledge of the AFP Bill of Donor Rights.
  • Comfortable working closely with donors to the organization
