What's Your Favorite Album of All-Time

Inspired by All-Star, Dariel Dixon's profile page - what's your favorite album of all time (bonus points if it is an actual vinyl) - Mine is Xanadu (the movie soundtrack) - Electric Light Orchestra is my favorite band of all time, so no surprise there!

  • @Crystal Bruce Jeez, this one is hard. It changes all the time. I think the most pivotal was CKY's Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild. That came out when I was in middle school and was the first time I really noticed riffs. So that set a course for the rest of my life as a guitarist and music lover.

@Angela Finley Hunter: OKAY!! I'm calling a flag on the play. Greatest Hits albums are kinda like cheating. Anyway, Luther Vandross has a bunch of greatest hits albums, and some are better than others. However, I would recommend the Love, Luther box set if you can find it.

I love inspiring people and conversation @Crystal Bruce!

As a music lover, I can't narrow it down to one, but I'll give you a top 5 as of right now:

At least, that's it right now. It will change tomorrow.

Looking at that profile picture, I can't for the life of me remember what was on the turntable when I took that snapshot…

Enjoy listening to those too! Hope to see Mary J in concert soon.

  • @Dariel Dixon Midnight Marauders really is the perfect night-time driving soundtrack. Spent many a college evening cruising around to that one.

@Angela Finley Hunter I have been blessed to have seen Mary Jane Blige in concert a couple of times now. I'd recommend her show.

@Bobby Steurer I hear that. It has a very nocturnal vibe. I always had it in my car CD player for decades. I feel like outside of My Life, I've bought all of those albums at least twice.

IDK about favorite of all time, but I can tell that spring is in the air whenever I want to listen to Paul Simon's Graceland and The Radiators' Law of the Fish albums.

  • @Angela Finley Hunter A friend of mine saw Mary J a few years ago and had a blast. I believe Tyrese was also in the lineup, but I can't remember who else! Possibly Dru Hill?

@Crystal Bruce, there's no way I could choose one. That's like choosing a favorite book (impossible!).

It largely does depend on mood, and lately, I've been listening to audiobooks or podcasts more than music, so that also plays a factor in thinking of what I'd choose.

I do love a good soundtrack; the ones from Swingers, Mermaids and When Harry Met Sally are all ones I had on repeat many a time.

I also love Lyle Lovett; all of his albums are great.

@Carrie Powell Oh I LOVE the Mermaids soundtrack. I was listening to it the other week while making dinner. The Big Chill also has a great soundtrack.

  • @Crystal Bruce Paradise Theatre by Styx, and it is definitely vinyl!

  • @Crystal Bruce So, so many! Though a vinyl album from my childhood was Pete Townshend's White City, which I still enjoy.

  • @Crystal Bruce
I would have to say may favorite album from my youth is Marillion's 1985 album Misplaced Childhood. My daughter is even named after the song Kayleigh on that album.

  • @Heather Pauli
Showing my age now but I actually have Paradise Theater on 8-track. LOL

  • @Jeff Smith These are the “click-click” best of times!?

  • @Crystal Bruce Stevie Wonder Musiquarium and Fleetwood Mac Rumours

  • @Crystal Bruce My favorite would have to be the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman!!

  • @Jeanette Rodriguez you and me BOTH!

@Crystal Bruce The Cure-Disintegration. If I was stranded on a desert island with only three albums, I'd bring three copies of that. And probably wear them all out!

  • @Crystal Bruce Thriller by Michael Jackson

Oooh there are a lot of really great albums - I've always been a CDs person so not really many vinyl records in my collection.

AFI's "The Art of Drowning" - this one sparked my love for AFI when I first listened to it as a teenager and I've been a fan of theirs ever since. Their recent album "Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…" is excellent.

Interpol's "Turn On the Bright Lights" - I actually wore my first copy of this out from playing it so much. It probably is one of the big defining albums of the early 00s.

Placebo's "Without You I'm Nothing" was also pretty influential on the young Rachel's music tastes.

More recently - Dave Hause's "Drive It Like It's Stolen" and Bedouin Soundclash's "Mass" were really good.
