October is Black History Month in the UK. It’s a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals from African and Caribbean backgrounds to British society.  Other European countries including Ireland, Germany, and the Netherlands observe similar commemorations in October, often referring to the month as “Black Achievement Month.”

In the UK, this year’s observance in British history is especially meaningful as it marks the 60th anniversary of the Race Relations Act of 1965—legislation that laid the foundation for making racial discrimination in public spaces unlawful.

At Blackbaud, we are proud to honor this pivotal moment in Black history in the UK and join others in shining a light on the stories, achievements, and milestones in Black history and culture. Our employees are engaging in educational and community-focused initiatives including attending an employee-led webinar commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Race Relations Act of 1965 and volunteering to provide resume career tips for young Black and underrepresented individuals at a local nonprofit in the UK.

We’re excited to honor this milestone and collectively strengthen our understanding of Black history, together.

Happy Black History Month to our customers in the UK—let us know in the comments how you are observing.
