RE NXT JustGiving integration

Hello!

Looking for some community experiences really, we currently use the old BBLinks plug-in for database view to import our JustGiving donors and gifts into RE.

We want to use the NXT integration for all the obvious benefits like the visibility in NXT at a glance but can't seem to see how it could work for us.

From what I see you have to set a default appeal/fund/campaign and then you can set overrides for your own charity created campaigns.

Most of our donors create their own fundraising pages so they wouldn't be caught by this, we also don't want to code all our JustGiving fundraisers the same as they do such a variety of great fundraisers for us we want to code them to reflect what they are.

Does anyone else have any experience with importing their JG gifts into NXT?

We also use ImportOmatic but want to avoid setting up another cumbersome profile and process if possible. We're also fortunate to receive a huge amount of gifts through JG so manually updating them all in the batch with the integration also doesn't seem to be practical?

Thanks for anyone's experiences/thoughts on this.

We don't use the integration ourselves (our process involves custom codes) but you might find some thoughts on using it over in the JustGiving part of the community. One thing that immediately comes to mind (and I don't know if it's been altered since) is that the addresses of existing supporters get updated but not always correctly (see Nicola's example) as it relies on exactly what the donor enters when making their donation.

Fundraising pages do get included, I believe, and the fundraiser is linked on the “Recognition Credit” tile in web view - this corresponds to a text attribute in db view.

The experience is as you know it already.

We do use the integration though

The way we handle this is through custom code using SKY API where we keep track of the fundraising page and what CFAP (campaign fund appeal package) and gift custom field (attributes), with automation we recreate the gift records with the right info and org specific gift coding practices.

It is quite involvement unless you want to learn automation or have someone that does or use a partner.

The benefits are enormous though. All we need to do is approve the web batch as is and gift will be exactly how we need it to be. Huge time saver if you have a lot of JG gifts.

Hello, thanks for your reply! This sounds really interesting.

We currently use the API to feed in some forms from our website, but haven't experimented with it for gifts.

Does this mean you have to remove the gifts that come through on the batches though to reduce automation? Or is the API re-coding these gifts?

Any further information you might be able to share would be appreciated.

Thank you, I did notice that actually JustGiving just asked me for my house number and post code when I did a test - then my record lost it's ‘complete’ address so definitely something to think about. The workaround of a JustGiving address type seemed like it could work.

That makes sense - only house number and postcode are needed to process your card payment, and then the marketing consent that they ask donors about is only email consent, so they wouldn't necessarily bother to request full address details.

You do not have to remove the gift, IF you don't do daily gift report automation. You can read up on why here:

If you don't remove gift to handle daily gift reporting, then just update/edit the gift using “PATCH” http method.

    Hi Mathew

Have you found a way of resolving this as we are currently looking at moving over to the NXT integration and we are having the exact same issue. One default does not work for all JG pages and gifts

Are you in the UK if so it would be great to hear your thoughts ?

    Nicola

  • @Nicola Mainwaring Hi Nicole, we are in the UK as well. But no we haven't found a solution, and recently our BBLinks plugin got disabled with no notice so we're a bit unsure on how to proceed. It's looking like using ImportOmatic is going to be our best bet going forwards. It's a shame they've dropped the functionality they gave us in links to code invdividual pages.
