How do other organizations handle and query IRA distributions?

Also, do you use the gift reference field to indicate it is an IRA distribution? Has anybody used the gift attribute category to identify the gift as an IRA distribution? We are trying to tie the IRA distribution amount to the actual gift.

@Linda Schwambach like @Marie Stark We use the gift subtype of IRA Rollover and that drives the language of the acknowledgements for us as it is only a thank you. We also use a batch template to ensure the following:

    • Receipt amount is zero
    • Reference = IRA Rollover; Copies of checks made
      • This prompts gift entry person to make copies of the checks as we include that with the acknowledgement
      • IRA Rollover is redundant in the reference but it is part of the default for the batch and creates no extra work.
    • Gift attribute of = Date (Stamped) Received (Not blank)
      • Used in the acknowledgement
    • Gift attribute of = Firm/Bank (Not Blank)
      • Used in the acknowledgement

Always interested to hear what others are doing.

  • @Elizabeth Johnson's response is helpful, but it reminds me that we do NOT know, at the moment, what is happening regarding default sets in webview.

There is an idea in the idea bank to make them available in webview (from 2018!!!) and I encourage people to vote on it.

Thank you all for your time and help.
