The Mardi Gras celebration is a tradition in New Orleans, Louisiana that dates back to the year 1703 when French settlers celebrated the event.  It is widely celebrated in many corners of the world such as Sweden, Italy, Germany, and The Czech Republic.  It is widely known as the feasting / party in the lead up to the ritual fastings of the Lenten celebration.  So get your King Cakes ready - next Tuesday is Fat Tuesday, the culmination of the Mardi Gras season.  The king cake - mentioned in this week's title - is a pastry that is eaten during this time and a small plastic baby is hidden within the confection.  The person who finds the baby in their piece of cake is said to have good luck for a year - and in our office that person also has to buy the king cake the following year.  Looking forward to the king cake Crystal Bruce brings in this Tuesday!

FUN FACT: Did you know that the McDonald's Filet-O-Fish sandwich was created specifically for this time of year when Catholics typically abstain from eating meat on Fridays?  And did you know that the original Filet-O-Fish was competing with the "Hula Burger" - a pineapple burger.  Whichever sold the best that first year would become a permanent menu item.  And thus was born the Filet-O-Fish sandwich.  Read all about it HERE.
