GET TO KNOW A NINJA


Each week, we aim to bring you a little closer to one of our Blackbaud Community super users (AKA Ninjas).


This week, we’d like to introduce Larry Wheeler; Business Technology Analyst for Division of Advancement & Alumni at Austin Peay State University.

What area are you in (geographically) and why do you love it?

I live 45 minutes outside of Nashville, TN.  I enjoy the huge expanses of forested areas and large lakes and rivers, almost all within an hour of Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville (GO VOLS!) or Chattanooga.   The weather is perfect for me.  Warm to hot summers with a short, though sometimes very icy, winter season and Spring/Fall are mild and beautiful.  There is so much green in this state, I take it for granted until I visit out west or further south.  I could ramble on about this area, but hopefully you all can picture it now!

What do you enjoy about the Blackbaud Community?

The level of community engagement and knowledge held by members of the Blackbaud community is extraordinary.   Many members are very helpful.  I find myself having to get to the forums quickly if I want to answer a question, because there are so many top contributors.  “Applause emote” directed towards my fellow ninjas as they are a great group of helpful individuals.  If I have a question, or an issue with RE I can’t seem to solve, I hit the Knowledge Base for a quick search, and then to the community forums for answers.

What is something that you never thought you’d enjoy at your current job that gets you up and motivates you now?

I never thought I would enjoy being around so many strangers!  I am an IT person and close to the old cliché I must admit.  But, having served during events, tailgating, dinners and more I have been brought together with people I probably would never have met otherwise.  I am now acquainted with incredible and interesting people and some have even become friends.
