New Constituent record for a donor's foundation

We have a longtime donor who recently began sending checks from a foundation she has set up. The foundation is her name {i.e. The Jane Doe Foundation), and shares her home address. It's not a DAF fund, and I am assuming it's incorporated as some sort of charitable foundation, not just a checking account with a DBA or something, though I could be wrong. I assume all the money is hers.

I originally created a new Constituent record for the foundation and set it up to always soft credit the individual. But, I don't like having superfluous Constituent records. What if instead I just kept the original individual record, and updated Alias, Name Formats, and/or employment Relationship records so that acknowledgements etc all name the foundation without having to add a new Constituent?

I imagine creating new records for legally - if not practically - distinct entities is closer to being best practice, but I'd love to hear opinions.

I agree with everything @JoAnn Strommen stated above. Assuming that she continues giving both personally and through the foundation years down the road you will want to be easily and accurately able to generate a giving history for either her personally or for the foundation. Your DBA from 10 years down the road will thank you for doing the right thing and keeping the records separate.
