Importing Fund Attributes

I'm trying to find information about how to import fund attributes for existing funds in RE. I have looked at the import tool in db view, but I am not sure if this is the best way. We also have Omatic cloud and Import Omatic. Knowledgebase article 39351 had a link that looked promising but when I went there, the page no longer existed. Does anyone out there have experience with this? Basically, I want to a new attribute to all existing funds in a bulk operation (from a csv file).

  • I've done it using native import. My file had 3 columns: Fund ID, Fund Attribute Category and Fund Attribute Description. I used Fund Import, marked it as "update existing record" and "use the Constituent ID" as way to identify the record.

  • when doing importing, always test it out on your record in database view to make sure it works before doing a bunch, this will avoid major issues. It will save you a lot and a headache.

  • Importing this information in database view is one of the simpler imports, so I would recommend just using that. Setting everything up in Omatic feels unnecessary.

  • Along with MANY imports for Appeals, Actions, notes etc., we do LOTS of importing of Attributes for Funds and Constituents and also to update email address statuses. If you're new at this, I strongly urge you to read and follow the documentation, use "Validate" wherever possible and use small 'test' data sets until you're comfortable with the specific process. Also, don't underestimate the power of Global Changes (based on Queries) and Import/Exports to modify existing data.

I agree with @Karen Diener. As a customer who uses Omatic and understands that it is a good tool, unless you plan to do this frequently, going the native import path is much less time-consuming. And yes, testing your import using small data sets is something I'd highly recommend as well.
