Limit number of Tickets available for purchase?
Hello wise ones,
As part of reunion, we will be selling some artwork to help fund scholarships and I have been asked about accepting payment for the works and that is where I could use some help.
The pieces of art (probably no more than 50) will be divided into price ranges (ex. there will be 25 pieces for $250 each and 25 pieces for $1,000 each). The pieces will be hung up throughout the weekend so in theory, someone could by piece 1 for $250 on Friday night and it would still be there when someone tries to buy it on Sunday morning. I obviously want to prevent two people buying the same piece of art so I was wondering if we created an event for the $250 pieces (each piece being it's own ticket type) if that would work, but I don't think you can limit the number of total tickets purchased for an individual type.
I may also be thinking about this totally wrong, but would love to hear some creative thoughts!

@Dan Snyder That's a tricky one. Besides having someone babysit the online donations and “turn off” ticket options, it's hard to manage limitations on online forms.
This might be an overly-complicated workaround … it would be possible (though tedious?) to replicate a unique donation form for each art piece. Each form would have a “fundraising goal” of $250 or $1,000. You can change the label “Fundraising goal” to “Sold!” on the form. Then, you can create a QR code for that form and display it beside its artwork. Hypothetically, in this scenario donors would then browse the art, scan the QR code for the piece they want, and access its unique online form. If the piece has been sold already, the “Sold” (fundraising goal) bar will be filled at the top of the form.
I'm not sure whether the prep work would be easier than babysitting the auction, honestly!

@Faith Murray Thanks Faith, that may be the only option if there are no babysitters

@Dan Snyder I'm with @Faith Murray here. The workarounds for this are so tedious that my org usually ends up “babysitting” the forms and turning them off once a limit has been reached.
But hey, I like to think we're cool babysitters. The ones who let you watch Friday the 13th on DVD and eat Sour Patch Kids while your parents are out.
