RSS Feed to BBIS Webpage

Has anyone had success with creating RSS feeds, particularly in pushing results from an ad-hoc query in CRM to a BBIS website page? We are trying to create an RSS feed of upcoming events in our CRM system that can then be fed through to / picked up by other sites automatically.

I have looked at the Event Calendar functionality in BBIS (as I know the RSS feed capability is an option with this), and I do not believe it meets our requirements, here. I am trying to pull events out of CRM.

I know you can create data lists from ad-hoc queries in CRM to display within CRM - but can these be pulled into BBIS so that anyone (not just those with access to CRM) can view the RSS feed?

Basically, has anyone looked into this? Been able to achieve this? Thanks in advance!

  • I don't have an answer, but I would also very much like to know how this could be achieved.  I don't think the BBIS Event Calendar functionality has been touched in the 8 years we have been using BBIS.
  • We use the RSS feed to display events on our homepage (https://unkalumni.org/). The main issue with the RSS is that all the info is clumped together and not very easy to separate out into an eye pleasing display. Using a character cap, we are able to get the basics displayed until we find a better solution.

As for getting general ADHoc Query Results out of CRM, we use the BBIS ADF API to do so. It works fine, but the initial request is slow until it's cached so it's not the best solution. The best alternative we have found is to use the API to pull the data from the Query and store somewhere, like a JSON file, to read out on the page.

This isn't really an RSS solution, but there is a BBIS part that allows you to display the results of CRM queries in BBIS.  Not sure if you've considered this, but figured I would share.

For more info on the Query Results Display part,

  • We've done this in the past but it was a custom solution with a framework part.

We would pull the data from the query and then use some 3rd party tools to get the data into the RSS format standard.

I has made it a handler that accepted a query name to expose the results as rss.

We then wrote another custom framework part that inverted that and took and rss feed url and spit the data back out.

Some of them were also able to be surfaced publicly and people could put the RSS url into their own rss readers and get updates that way without even hitting our site.

    It's been years though.
