Assessment Skills in Report Card do not wrap when they are lengthy -- what have other schools done?

Hi All,

This is our first year using the K-12 SIS for our progress reports (report cards) that are all skills based. I've run into an issue in that the assessment skills are cut off rather than wrapped to the next line when the skill is lengthy. The number of characters varies and is based on the font size of the report card, but it's really causing problems in our K-6 assessment skills. There was no information in the report card set up that would have warned us that these longer skills would not display until we were building the report card.

How have other schools handled this issue?

Thanks in advance for any feedback

  • Hi Margie,

Our longer assessment skills wrap. Are you using the new or old report card builder? I've included screenshots from both.

  • Hi Margie - we used to have that problem with assessment skills when publishing our report cards in Crystal Reports. This year we are using the Report Card builder - and the complete text of our assessment skills are displaying. Some of them are 191 characters long and they wrap.

  • Thank you, Candace and Nancy, that was very helpful! We are using the new report card builder. I was able to go into the design section, and when I added "Wrap Text" to the Course Title (the first column in the report), then the assessment skills wrapped. The "wrap text" button is not available in the grading column (where the skills are pulling from), so it's a little counter-intuitive. I had opened a case with support, and they had suggested changing font size, column size, etc., but changing the first column to include "Wrap Text" did the trick!

  • I have the same problem with the "assessment skill" grades not wrapping. I also couldn't get it to show numbers or letters for the assessments. I finally shortened the "grade" and then put a key at the bottom. But it would be nice if this worked. I was told in November it was a "priority" to fix. 3-6 months.

  • Hi Michelle,

I did the same thing with our first set of report cards in December (which had 5-10 skills for each course), but then discovered this new fix for our elementary report cards (which have 60+ skills).

Checking the "wrap text" in whatever the first column is (for us it is course title, see screenshot), allowed the skill to wrap. The skill is actually being pulled in the last column ("Grade") which does not have a "Wrap Text" checkbox. This solved the wrap problem for us.

We also had to shorten the descriptions of indicators (some categories have 9 options) to have them print properly.

  • @Nancy Kierstead Hi! I know this is an older post but are you still using assessment based report cards? We are trying to switch over to this and I would love to see what they look like before proceeding. Do you mind sharing?

Here are some examples from our Kindergarten report card!

  • Renee Hoppe Here are a couple of screenshots of one of our report cards! We include homeroom and special subject assessment skills and comments for three trimesters.

  • @Nancy Kierstead thank you! Do you also use them for subject areas as well? Also, is this always what the assessment based report cards look like or did you have them design one for you?
