letting students see assignment grades

This may be an obvious answer, but we haven't used this ever and now with distance learning, we are.  We always uncheck Publish grades when assigning something. But even when i check the box, it seems that the kids do not see the grade.  How can I change this without opening up pandora's box and letting parents and kids see the gradebook? Is there a way to see individual assignment grades without gradebook access?

In order for students to see their grades, you need to open the gradebook. It is possible to open it just for the students, and you can do it by division. We began a trial halfway through the fall semester with our upper school with plans on shutting it off if it was creating too much stress or creating other issues. Faculty and students have liked having it on, and we have had extremely few issues considering what we feared.

  • A teacher wants to know:  is there a way to set a date in the future when students can see Assignment Grades?

It seems that if you check "Publish Grades" (per assignment), the grade becomes visible immediately, as soon as the teacher grades the assignment.

Sometimes a teacher wants to delay visibility.
