Hiding Attributes

Is there a way to hide attributes?  We have historical attributes that we want to keep for reports in the future, but really do not need to see them on a constituents profile on a daily basis (they make things jumbled).  They have basically become static and will not be used - except for reports.  Thanks for any ideas!

  • Hi Chris,

This is a great question. I don't believe there is a way to hide them, even if you mark them inactive they will still show unless you globally remove them but you would only do that if you don't need them anymore.

I will be interested to see what others say/recommend.

  • Thanks for replying - you expressed what I have found.
Hopefully someone knows something we don't.

    I wish you good health.

You are correct - marking inactive still allows them to be displayed on records, but they can no longer be selected.

The only other thing you could do is hide attributes for certain security groups.  The problem is that you cannot hide specific attributes - the whole tab is hidden.  If users still need to see other attributes, that won't work very well.

So I think you are stuck with seeing them.  I think we're in the same boat - I hate the added "noise" of that sort of data.

  • If they're static, placeholder info, maybe you could consider throwing a Z in front of the attribute name.  Then, at least, they would show up at the end of the list when viewing attributes in alphabetical order.  I know it's not a "fix" but perhaps it would improve functionality a bit.
