Anyone else experiencing an "unsupported file type error" for students/teachers uploading .pdfs?

Hi All,


I've had three students and two faculty members contact me regarding an "unsupported file type error" when trying to use onCampus online submission with .pdfs. I was in a chat earlier this week about it but support wasn't able to pinpoint the problem. I am also not able to recreate the error.


Here's what it looks like from their perspective:



My workaround has been to tell student to upload the file to Google Drive and share that way, since that doesn't seem to cause the same error.

It could be the name of the file—unsupported characters. We have had that problem in the past. I would rename without special characters and try that to see if it goes through.

Hi there, we do have one recent report of issues with pdfs specifically to investigate. If you did try it with no special characters in the file name and it worked would you update this so that we'll know that was the issue? thanks!

We have also resolved this issue by renaming the files so there are no special characters.

Thank you! I will pass that along to support and see if we can do something on our end to strip special characters on the upload automatically. I'm not sure that's possible but can certainly ask.

Hello Angie, Thank you for passing that along to support. I hope it's possible to fix it, and I think it should. This is really a basic upload feature to have... Just think about the number of schools that have international students/programs and foreign language courses and may use non-US characters in filenames. We are one of them!

Another issue along this line today. Students didn't have any problem submitting Word documents with special characters in the title but then the teacher couldn't open them to annotate. ‍ Angie Addison‍ any idea if stripping the special characters (or just allowing them) is possible? Were you able to bring it up to dev?

This just happened at our school today as well.  Students uploaded the documents (with accent marks over letters) for our new language teacher in their French class, and they didn't have trouble uploading.  He could download them in bulk, but not individually, so he could not annotate them.

We had that issue and renaming the document with .pdf at the end fixed it for us.

We are experiencing this now. Did you find a solution? Our go around is to download to desktop and then upload. It will support the pdf that way just not from the google drive.
