Adding students as users

Hello,

We were looking into adding our 6th-8th grade students as users.  Do you all have any suggestions on how to set them up?

Example. Profile access security etc.

We were hoping that we could have control of the student passwords (to match their in school passwords) but in chatting with support they said that the user has the right to change their passwords at anytime.

Any suggestions that you could provide would be appreciated!

Thank you!

  • Our Middle School students don't have access to edit their profiles.  I added a new role that is applied to Upper School students (called "Student - Can Edit Profile") that permits that divisional separation.  Yes, it's a pain to add the US students because there's no quick way to do it (I have to click them one-by-one to add them to the list) but it was, at least at the time, the only way to accomplish that.

We recently implemented Blackbaud ID for some of our Lower School (3 - 5) students, and I plan to implement that system-wide over the summer.  That will keep their passwords in sync.  If you're using an authentication system that can support a connection to Blackbaud ID, I'd suggest it.  It requires a little care in setting it up, but will be worth not having the separate passwords.  You can implement that by user, so you could just apply that to your students in grades 6 - 8, if you wanted to.
