Slow system

When working on the grant making software it is taking such a long time to process applications as it keep freezing for approx 20 seconds between tasks. Is anyone else experiencing this? Internet Explorer is up to date, ram is 8GB on laptop, processor is good too. So I am stuck for ideas on what to do now. 


Any help would be appreciated.
