Relationship Fields in Column Options - List in NXT

Would be great if relationship fields were available to display as columns in NXT's list function. Right now you have to go into "database view" (aka the old software) to produce a list that includes them. Something as simple as creating a list of constituents with their job titles or their children's information should be able to be done in NXT.

Along those lines, would be great to get a definitive date on when NXT will have all the functionality that "database view" offers. Frustrating to have to go back and forth for years, and/or rely on my database coordinator to produce what should be a very simply list. Microsoft doesn't ask me to toggle back and forth between Word 97 and the newest title for certain things. Just sayin'.

Your idea to be able to display relationship fields in NXT lists is a good one, and I would recommend you add it to the idea bank so that others can vote and comment on the usefulness of it.  I know Blackbaud does review that, so it is probably a better place to make suggestions like this.

As for a definitive date of when webview will have the same functionality as database view?  That isn't going to happen.  We've all been hoping for that for awhile now.  While I agree it is frustrating to go back and forth between views, depending on the functionality you need, it is something you'll just have to get used to unfortunately.  I hate giving that answer, but it is not worth wasting your energy on wishing for it.

  • @Karen Diener I'll just add that the list of logical and feasible “wishes” for product improvement that BB has either ignored or has been “working on” for years. Submitting requests via the community isn't really “wishing,” but you're right. Instead of wasting my time trying to help BB improve my and the scores of other users experience, I should invest that time in finding a better product. Get used to it doesn't sit right with me, but I appreciate the honest answer. Those are in short supply too, from BB.

I've been using Blackbaud since 1997, so am well aware of how product updates have rolled out over time. Blackbaud has said repeatedly that they pay the most attention to the Idea Bank, so I always steer people that way.

If you have watched the recent PUB, you'll see that there is rapid development anticipated in webview over the next 20 months or so. They have also been singing this song for a few years related to webview, but I do believe it is different now for a lot of reasons.

I'm not going to discourage you from looking for another product, of course. I do encourage you to be thoughtful and methodical about it though. Feel free to send me a private message if you'd like more info about that.
