Gradebook not calculating "0"

Here is a fun one that my teachers discovered today after the updates. If a teacher enters a "0" in the gradebook, it's not included in the cumulative grade AT ALL. I've confirmed this with multiple teachers, classes, and assignments and have also replicated the issue in my "Fake Class". Perfect timing. Our teachers are supposed to have grades updated today in preparation for progress reports and parent/teacher conferences. Yes, I have a support ticket in with Blackbaud but after the third teacher emailed me this morning, I figured I'd let others know about the bug since there isn't any way for Blackbaud schools to find information about existing issues.

  • Same here and just opened case also! 0 didn't save either. Later when the teacher returned to the gradebook, the cell was empty. These "issues" are now at critical status in regards to the teachers assignments (not halfway working) and  now the gradebook is unreliable.
  • Sandra Ross‍ Have you been able to establish if zeros that were already in the gradebook are still calculating? In other words, is it only "new" zeros or are ALL zeros not calculating? I haven't had a chance to check or run scenarios yet!
  • Yes, I opened a case with support about this issue this morning.  Right now I'm telling folks to add a .001 or a 1 or something in the field.  Teachers are frustrated.
  • I have teachers who entered 0’s and they are
staying. Difference is they did not tag it as Missing!

  • Just had a chance to test it in my fake class and it does seem like the old zeros are still calculating. My fake student had a zero on an assignment and if I deleted the zero (so they just didn't have a score), the grade went up. Nancy Kierstead‍, I told my teachers to do "1" as well.
  • Lucky you!  It doesn't matter if I tag it as missing or not.  The zero does not stick and does not calculate into the cumulative.
  • I have the same issue.  I also tried without having "m" and "0" still will not save.

  • To clarify, the 0 previously entered was not
tagged as missing and did stay. But, as many have reported…new 0’s
added today (missing or not) do not record or change the marking
    period grade. Apologies for confusion.

  • Thank you as I was just about to contact support and thought I would see if anyone else was having this issue. I thought I was crazy.  So far only one teacher has noticed but it won't take long.  I'll also contact support to hopefully give them a push.  Thanks for letting us and me know I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.

  • I just had two teachers come to me about this issue, too! Hopefully a fix is coming soon!

    Hi all,

I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this issue caused today. Fortunately our team was able to quickly identify the cause and have pushed out a global fix. Teachers and admins are now able to enter a 0 for a grade on assignments and it properly calculates into the student's cumulative grade.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we addressed the issue.
  • Thank you for the quick action!
  • I had to put in a ticket for this first thing this morning as well.

It seems not to be calculating correctly when a zero is entered.

I just received a notification on my case that this has been corrected.
  • For those following this, a patch was released and it's fixed.
