Remote Auditing - Auditing in a Digital Electronic World

I hope that everyone is staying safe and doing well.

Our Executive Director and I are trying to gather information on not-for-profit entities who have transitioned 100% to digital documents, storage of digital documents in FENXT and all review and approvals captured electronically in FENXT. In addition to, any CPA Firms that may have adjusted their auditing their procedures to adapt to remote auditing in a digital electronic age.

We completed our 2019 audit during the quarantine in March and April with all of us working remotely from home.

With all of our documents stored digitally in the accounting software, in addition to, electronic approvals captured within the accounting software, sample selection review was completed by the CPA firm by clicking on General Ledger Hyperlinks, search for journal entry with unique identifying number, grant agreements in grant record, etc. They had view only access.

Our wrap up conversation brought up valid points on both sides in trying to eliminate inefficiencies.

For our organization, it would be inefficient to take snip-its of electronic approvals and download all digital documents stored in the Accounting Software, to then save in another storage area designated by the CPA firm. The CPA firm feels inefficiencies may result from struggling to find digital documents, approvals in FENXT, etc.

We just wanted to check to see if there were any not-for-profits who have made a transition to remote auditing, in addition to the CPA Firm accessing FENXT (view access only) to view digital documents and electronic approvals. All of our grant agreements, vendor contracts, credit card receipts, out of pocket receipts, etc. are stored in the software and are accessible from hyperlinks.

Any insight would be really appreciated.
