Best Practices for Setting Goals and Tracking?

We are looking at the next budget cycle; and I'd love to somehow track more details of our goals in RENXT. I know how you can set a goal for a Fund, Campaign, Appeal, etc. - but it is limited in that it can't be a monthly goal. Does anyone have any best practices of how setting and tracking more specific goals have worked for you?

  • Hi, Anna.  I don't know if this is "best practice," but here's what I did when I was the DBM at Make-A-Wish here in San Francisco:  First, for appeals, appeals usually turn around so quickly that I wouldn't worry about periodic goals.  Just set the full appeal goal and leave it.  For Campaigns and Funds what I would do is to break them out on a spreadsheet and update them the second week of every month.  I found it only took me minutes to do them.  Yes, it would be nicer if RE would just allow us to record goals over time, but since it didn't and still doesn't, this is what I would do.  I always waited until the *second* week of the month because I figured that managers wanted to see how they were doing for last month a little into the current month.  Yes, that way the numbers aren't perfect, but they don't need to be for goals.  I would also send a short email to folks to let them know the goals had been updated.  Not perfect, but it seemed to work well enough.
