RENXT-I-3880 Marketing -> Email -Merge field for previous year annual giving

I'm really wanting to send my annual giving recognition letter from RE NXT Marketing emails, but in order to do so, I really need to be able to reflect the total amount given in the previous year.  At this time there is not a merge field for that. 

I did post an idea to the idea bank asking for it--RENXT-I-3880

If you also want this feature please vote for it.  In the meantime, if you have a reasonable workaround, I'd be interested in hearing it.
