I am trying to create a query of gifts and include an Attribute Category attached to an appeal  to exclude specific records 

Any ideas?

Can you run a selection based on what you don't want?  Then in the original query ask for anyone NOT on that selection list?

I was always taught to build a separate query for the filters that you do not want and sub them from your base group using the merge feature. I hope this helps.
