Gift attributes not transferring from OLX to RE

I have created an event and used gift attributes to capture meal options. When I receive my email confirmation it shows a blank answer at times but once the gift is processed it shows on the gift in the attributes. Also, when I check the gift attribute at times it doesn't have the selection but the email confirmation shows the option. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. What am I doing wrong? The attributes are checked as required in the event form.

Hi, Megan! Rather than use Gift Attributes, you need to use Participant Attributes. Do that, and their selections will download into their Participant record in the Event module.
