Setting up Direct debit payments

Hello,


How would you go about setting up direct debit donations/payments?

I have tried to look for other messages on this topic but can't find anything that would help me.

I'd like to understand how to set those up from the very beginning. I'm not expecting loads of direct debits, so might not need a third party data processor- so then, how can i make sure payments are taken every month?

What's the difference between DD and recurring gift?

DD is from a bank account Recurring gift is charged to a card via BMS.


We currently do not use DD's through BB but do use the Recurring gift feature with cards.

Are you using Recurring gift because you don't have too many of them and easier to manage than DD?

Recurring gifts can exist regardless of whether it's on a credit card or direct debit. It's a different setup for direct debit that require bank information to be set up first. Let me see if I can find the directions I used to set up the one direct debit we have. Sorry, but I don't really know how to have someone set one up in Online Express forms, but I can at least help you figure out the back end.


Both direct debits and charging credit cards can also happen as one time charges/pulls also.

Recurring gift is a type of gift, like pledge, cash, stock, etc. It's a gift that will have recurring payments: weekly, monthly, annually or any set schedule that continues indefinitely (until donor cancels). It can be paid by any of the methods of payment.


Direct debit (DD) is a method of payment. Others in RE are credit card, personal check, cash, other, etc. As Heather said, a direct debit can be used as pay method for a one-time gift, multiple pledge payments or recurring gifts.

Can you have both Direct Debit and a Recurring Gift option on the form? Or is it one or the other.....Pros/Cons of having one vs the other?
