Insight returns inaccurate data

I have been doing a deep dive into our grade distributions for last year. I designed an insight to help me with the study. I was very excited that we purchased the new Insight Builder as I believed it would be great help with this. As I was looking at the data returned by the insight, I noticed it was incorrect. Running a grade distribution report confirmed that the insight data was incorrect.

I opened a support case inquiring as to why there was a discrepancy between the data in the report and the data being displayed by the insight and received the following response: “I believe that this could be being caused because if a student has a Depart Date set without the Graduated checkbox checked on the student enrollment grid, which is indicative of a withdrawal even if they haven’t been withdrawn. Years in which students have been withdrawn are not included in the Insight report. (Italics mine) The insight has a lot more control over what is being pulled in than a report so you can be more selective of what you pull in compared to a report.”

So an insight does not return data on withdrawn student.

I added the filter “Is a current student” and selected yes and no, re-ran the insight and the withdrawn student data is still missing.

Adding the filter “Name” and using a withdrawn student as the filter, the insight returns “NO DATA FOR YOUR FILTER SELECTION. Try adjusting or removing some of your filters.”

I am now questioning the validity of data returned by an insight.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to account for withdrawn students in an insight?

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks so much for posting this issue. I am the Product Manager for Core which includes the Insight Designer. I'll be digging into this today to see if we can figure it out. I'll share my findings here as soon as possible.

    Thanks again,
