Google Classroom Integration

I have added the Google Assignments Learning Tools Integration and the Google Drive Integration. I did not implement the SSO with Google as I already implemented the SSO with Microsoft Azure. Does anyone know if this is all I need to do to allow the Assignments and Gradebooks to be sync'd between Blackbaud and Google Classroom? I assume that because I didn't implement the SSO, the teachers and students will need to log onto Google separately.

How does a teacher link their Google Classroom to their Class in Blackbaud?

  • The LTI integration is not a one-to-one with Classroom. Google Assignments offers a subset of functionality with Google Docs for markup/grading, but you still have to create the assignments in Blackbaud and push them out to Assignments. Here is a video that does a good job of explaining it:

Short answer is that teachers cannot just continue to work in Classroom and have grades magically flow to Blackbaud.

  • If the teachers create Assignments in Google Classroom and I have the LTI with Google Assignments will it sync the grades?
  • No, the LTI integration is driven from creating the assignments in Blackbaud and using Google Assignments, not Classroom. Assignments is a different tool. It's a bummer for teachers that hear "integration with Classroom" but it is not what you think!

  • From Google Assignments can they use the feature that is available in Google Classroom that allows the teacher to make a separate copy of the assignment for each student and it manages the folders that contain the assignments?
  • I believe that is also driven from Blackbaud when you create the assignment. The Google Assignments piece is mainly for mark up and grading of submitted work. The Blackbaud assignment side has that similar choice to give each student a copy, but I am unsure what that ends up doing with a Google Doc if that is what you start from as your handout.
  • Hi, It's Elizabeth the K-12 Community Manager. To share all these good answers with others interested in LTI/Integration, I am moving this post to the LTI/One Roster Forum.

@Jackson Loo there are some answers on this post that I hope will be helpful for you.

  • We have students in classes who are from two Google Domains. Students not in our main domain who are attempting to submit google docs as part of an assignment cannot. Any thoughts on this before I submit a case?

  • My only guess would be to make sure you have both domains set up in Blackbaud for integration. Definitely worth a ticket!

  • Thanks, Jason!
