Citizenship field vs. International field in Edit Citizenship/Resident dialog

Why are there both a Citizenship field and a yes/no International field available in the Edit Citizenship/Resident dialog? That is, do these two fields have two separate purposes/uses? I would expect that in the U.S. if citizenship was other than United States, we would consider the student an international student, so these seem duplicative to me, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something, which is quite possible!

  • It might be because we want to search to see how many are international and then what specific country they are from. But I may be mistaken. It has been a long week!

My school tracks citizenship for boarding students only - not for day students.

We have a specific definition of "International student'" that is not based solely on citizenship. It's a combination of location of residence, citizenship, visa status, and other factors. It identifies students who get extra support from our International Office.

Some US citizens live overseas but come to us as a boarding student and are considered International students. Some students who are citizens of another country live in the US but come to us as boarding students. They are NOT International students.
