☑️ Collected: Visible to students or no?

Hi all,

Ben from LMS here with a question for you. We recently introduced the “Collected” indicator for grading assignments. This was meant as an internal way for a teacher to keep track of whether or not they have collected a hard-copy assignment submission. It looks like so:

We've heard from some folks that they would like the Collected designation to be visible to students and parents, and to potentially override the Overdue status for an assignment.

That said, we also know that having Collected be visible might cause confusion for when it's not something a teacher uses, giving the impression that something wasn't Collected if it's not being marked.

With that framing, we'd love to hear what you think: would you like the option for Collected to be visible to students and/or parents? Why or why not?

I don't think that students or parents need to see the Collected indicator, but - as I mentioned a few days ago - we would like the option to have it change the assignment status to Submitted for a student.

Hi Ben,

I think our Lower School teachers would like to have it show to their students and potentially trigger a change on their end to the assignment status. I'm not sure about Upper or Middle divisions. In an ideal world it would be great if the teachers could choose. To be honest, I believe most teachers assume it does show since it sits next to Exempt, Late, and Missing, all of which show. Might want a little asterisk or parenthesis noting this is for internal use only and does not show to students.

We would like the Collected flag to show to students and parents. To be honest, we already thought it was showing.
