Frustrated with grading review - No comments for reviewers?

Hi all,

I am going through this process for the first time, and I noticed something odd. When an individual is a “reviewer” for a Grade plan, they can only flat out change the grades or comments. - No flag to the teacher and no place to put comments just for the teacher, like “Can you check question 3 again?” or “The first two sentences seem a little harsh, can you take another look at them?”

Our previous database had a comment section for the reviewer, they would send it back to the instructor (Reviewed button) and the instructor could read the feedback and make updates.

If we want to do this, I will either have to
1. Download all of the reports, convert to editable PDF's with a text box OR Word document, and distribute to reviewers and they can send the forms to the instructor when they are done.
2. Print them all out and distribute for physical writing and review
3. Have instructors fill out a spreadsheet with the grades and comments, allow reviewers to see and comment and make suggestions and then the instructors input the final grades and information into the database, creating more work for the instructors (and me).

Obviously I may be missing something since this is our first go at it. Does anyone have a better workaround or suggestions? Our last database provided this function so this was a little frustrating to say the least!

Thank you!

  • Yes! This is so frustrating.

The least-cumbersome workaround I have used was for teachers to enter all grades and comments in a Google Doc shared with appropriate admins. When grades and comments are ready for review, admins can use in-line editing and comments to give feedback. Then, only once all feedback has been reviewed and updated, grades and comments are finally entered into the K12 system.

It's very frustrating because the knowledgebase article for grade review gives only a single alternate option - printing the PDFs of the grades and comments for offline review and then manual updating.

I'd LOVE to see something more streamlined get implemented - if you submitted this as an idea I'd absolutely vote on it!

  • I use Google Classroom with myself as the teacher, and all the teachers as the students. Then they submit their grades & comments on there and I return them (with comments) when I have finished editing them. Then they copy their comments into Blackbaud. You could share individual teachers' docs with the reviewers.
