Account Codes - Classes

Does every account code (or account code category) has to be connected to the class? In other words do I have to have restricted and unrestricted account codes? Could I just have an account code and then when entering a transaction (invoice or deposit) I select restricted or unrestricted class to indicate correct restriction?

Technically Yes as does every single full account number have to have a class. But depending on your setup, some databases use the Funds to be the “class” or “restriction”. If this is the case, then classes on individual accounts aren't as important. If setup with fund controlling it, usually all accounts in that fund default to one of the classes for that fund ex, 01 could be all unrestricted, 02 could be temp, etc. Even when entering a transaction, the class field on an account is a default and notice you can change it any time you use it in a JE or invoice. But being consistent with it is easier and makes balancing the entries by class easier when not manipulating the class field on a transaction by transaction basis.

Hi Dragana! While the Class fills in as a default when the Account record is created, based on the fund, you can clear that default on the account so it doesn't fill in when you do data entry. Then, you'll have to select the class for each transaction line.

@Maire Moriarty Thank you so much! My “issue” is not with class but with duplicate accounts that I had to create when we switched to FENXT. For example, AP Restricted and AP Unrestricted, Cash Restricted and Cash Unrestricted, etc. I run restrictions on the fund not on the accounts and this makes my reports look “funny.”

@Kevin Brazell Thank you so much for your response! I am trying to see if there is a way to switch restriction categories from accounts to funds. That would make so much more sense.
