Reorder lines on Journal Entry

Is there a way to insert or move lines in a Journal Entry to stay in a specific order?

  • @Holly Lord I've never found a way. Curious though as to why you'd like to sort in a specific way. Now that I'm typing I fell like being able to sort on a field would make it easier to see the debits and credits for a certain account.

  • @Holly Lord Let me know if you find a way to do this as when I save a JE, it reorders my lines and I would like to move them back the way I entered them.

I wish there was. It's been a feature request I've asked for many times. It's really important on longer journal entries that are entered from a summary spreadsheet. If it's really important for a recurring journal entry, you can insert lines in Database mode, then copy and paste lines to where you want. Not worth it for one-off entries. Worth it for recurring ones.

Hi @Holly Lord - Currently there is no way to do so in Financial Edge NXT. I'll bring this up with my team and we'll review this for a future update. Thank you!

  • @Robin Waldinger - sorry for such a delay in response!! I have several journal entries that I do each month that should stay in a certain order - one is my payroll JE - I like the order to follow the payroll report so I know I haven't missed anything. Another is my revenue recognition - that one should follow the order that ties to my spreadsheet. I just don't know why the order that I put them in the JE changes after it posts!

  • @Holly Lord I agree, I like my payroll entry (among others) to be kept in the same order as entered so that when I need to look at the entry it follows the logic the entry was created in.
