Semester Abroad - Marking Student "on leave"?

From time to time, we have students who are on leave for part of the year. Reasons vary from studying abroad, medical leave, etc. How do you indicate this in BB? Once of the challenges for us is to keep parents on all of the current parent email lists.

We leave them in as current students.

@Lauren Marcus Eisenberg We keep students who are on leave enrolled but drop them from classes so teachers aren't prompted to record attendance. Timing of class drops depends on where we are in the semester because it affects how grades are recorded.

Additional details:

• We add a note to both the student's Academics record and Enrollment Management record.
• On their Contact Card > General information, we add a custom admin field we've called Leave of Absence, in which we select the reason for the LOA.
• We decide whether or not to remove the student and parents from bulk email - sometimes yes, sometimes no, depending on circumstances.

@Lauren Marcus Eisenberg and others who have answered this question. Has anyone thought about asking to change the Is Abroad checkbox on a student's profile to On Leave then using a Profile Notice to specify the leave type? Even better would be to have the Is Abroad changed to a table where the leave type could be specified!

@Lauren Marcus Eisenberg and others! If we indicate via an Admin View Only field for the leave type it looks like we cannot include those students with that attribute on the insight builder to get a count of on and off campus students? Am I missing something?
