Zero Credit Awarded for Dropped Course

Greetings,

A student received a zero, 0.0, credit on the transcript for a course that was dropped after the first quarter. The student received a passing grade for Q1. I reviewed the table under Academics/Grades Management/Grades&Credits-Dropped and I do see the course along with a Q1 grade. I am trying to figure out if staff dropped the student's course incorrectly. Has anyone else seen something similar on a student's high school transcript? Thank you!

  • @Julie Furlong Hello! It sounds like that is operating correctly, assuming you are showing dropped courses on your transcript. Were you expecting the student to earn ¼ credit for that course? I'm not sure which of us is in the majority voice on this one, but at our school students don't get any credit for dropped courses so the 0 is right. If a course can earn less than full credit, we create it in pieces (e.g. two separate semesters for a year-long course) so that it can successfully be taken by its smallest allowed unit.

  • If you are hoping to give the student “partial” credit for his work in Q1, you I think you would have to:

    • Specify “Specify Credit Awarded per Term” in the Grading section of the course's definition
    • Spread the 1 credit across all the quarters, [giving each 0.25]
    • Drop the student sometime after the end of Q1

  • @john ronan Oh yes that's the option! “Specify Credit Awarded per Term” … that would do it for sure. We use the single credit for the whole course.

Your registrar should be able to go to grades management, enter grades by student, view grades and credits dropped and manually update the number of credits earned.
