Source for identifying what location report filters are pulled from

I am attempting to write various reports to separate information by project divisions, project departments, project attributes, and transaction codes. Is there a source document identifying for example when a project attribute is filtered on in a report or used as a separator by page, that the filter or field is based on posted activity vs current setup? For another example, I found data in statement of activities separated by page is based on posted activity? Is this the same for project attributes, project divisions, and other? Is it known what the full set of data and fields activity is posted with to be able to determine where these report functions are pulling from? Thank you.
