Japanese addresses do not have a City field in donation forms

We recently realized that if a user selects Japan as a country when making a donation using a Raiser's Edge donation form, there is no field where they can enter a City.

This can cause the transaction to fail the Address Verification Service check.

I contacted Blackbaud support, and was told to add an idea to the Idea Bank. I have created one here, but also wanted to get this issue a bit more visibility, as I believe it would affect anyone who receives donations from Japan.

Feel free to vote for the idea if this is something that could impact you.

I don't think city is part of AVS check with BBMS

@Ben Regier We are using NetC to process international registrations for a conference, not NXT, but I know for NetC the international address formats are set up in Config > International.

Is it possible NXT pulls it's format from there too? Just a thought.

We did have issues with someone from UK getting their registration to processes due to address validation issues.

There is a City field for Japanese addresses when we enter them manually in RE, but it doesn't come up on the donation field. I'm pretty sure NXT and database view have separate address validation systems.

Good to know that city wouldn't affect AVS. We had a lot of AVS failures at the same time as donors from Japan were struggling to enter addresses with no city, so we assumed they were related.

@Ben Regier I'm searching the forums for international issues and found this question. I believe the idea bank did its magic as I see cities and prefectures and have successfully received gifts from Japan. This can be marked as answered. I am mostly writing this so that when I stumble on this again I know that I've read it ? Love the idea bank - I so wish it played nicely for me. . .
