I need help reporting on appeals

I need the following information.

For each renewal/acquisition/newsletter/e-appeal:

• FY Budgeted Revenue
• Total Expenses
• Revenue
• # of gifts
• Expense – print & postage
• Expense – postage
• Expense – creative (graphic design/video)
• Expense – other
• Goal date to land
• Date landed
• # mailing recipients

From what i can see you can only get some information from canned reports in RE and insights/dashboard in NXT. There is no full solution. Does anyone have any suggestions?

what you seek is (as you mentioned) does not come default to any prebuilt report.

are you manually entering expense into the RE appeal record? or is your RE connected to FE and you trying to get expense info from FE?

I have done something similiar and did it via custom report built on Power BI (using data sourcing from a data warehouse of RE and FE data). If you want to go this route, you will have to get familiar with SKY API first.

Another path you can take is to get all the data points needed from RE (and/or FE depending on how you record expense) and then create a report from those data in excel or other reporting tool.

@Alex Wong that's what I thought. Currently I do it in excel but tried with the reports and they are so limited.

I'd take a close look at what you need to report but quite a bit of this IS possible with some planning. You can only get it in database view though, so I'll start there. On the appeal record:

Budgeted Revenue = Overall Goal

Total Expenses = There is an Attributes / Expenses tab where you can manually enter these. I think that if you enter your individual expenses you won't need the total, but it is worth checking. You'll need to add the expense itself to the Expense table in Configuration.

Revenue = The report I'll explain at the end will calculate this for you.

No. of gifts = again, the report will calculate for you

Individual expenses = see the note about Total Expenses

Goal date to land = I would add this as an Appeal Attribute IF you need it. It will not show on the report I'm going to mention, and I'm not sure how relevant it is for you.

Date landed = This will be different for all of your constituents, so I don't see this as a relevant piece of data. There might be a good reason, but the report can show the first gift, which is potentially more meaningful

No. of mailing recipients = No. Solicited on the Appeal record.

When you receive gifts, you need to add them with this appeal in order for any reporting to work. Assuming you have done that, you can open the Appeal record and go to View | Summaries | Appeal Summary. Select any relevant parameters like date ranges or gift types, click Finish, and you'll get a report like this:

You can change the options in the View table at the top - currently showing Cost Analysis - and the Breakdown at the bottom which is currently showing Fund. This is test record by the way - nothing real at all in it. You can print it from here. Also check the Appeal Detail Report in the set of standard reports (Campaign, Fund and Appeal Reports) to see how that works. We always relied on this for our purposes, so it depends on your true reporting needs and what is actionable.
