How do we have some courses be counted less in the GPA?

Has anyone set up their grading so that some courses are counted less in the GPA?

For instance, if we want Art to be counted at half the value of a Math class in regards to determining GPA . I see how Honors courses can be counted more (.5 value vs. 0 value for other courses) however it is unclear how we can value a course less than full value when calculating GPA.

Is Alt. Equivalent Score useful in this case?

Thank you!

Susan

  • I believe you would use the credit values on the course record to adjust the relative values in the GPA calculations. @Susan Murray

Yes, thanks that seems to be the most simple way to accomplish our goal. Appreciate the feedback!

  • @Ravendra Persaud Can you expand on this? We are having the same problem at our school. We don't see anywhere to adjust credit values (besides in credit awarding, which we have already adjusted to lower than a math etc). Thank you!!

I was referring to adjusting the credit values on the courses themselves:

We already did that. It doesn't seem like it takes the credit into consideration when calculating the GPA - just the weight. If we play with the formula they gave us - with credits earned/attempting/attempted, it either gives students massively low or massively high grades (we are on a 100 point scale). Thank you for your insight :)

Understood. Thanks for that clarity. Might you be able to take a screenshot of the formula?

The problem seems like it does not take into account credit by class - only the total credits, which would really mess with their GPA's. We thought there would be a way, for example, to make a student's 90% in Gym (a 0.5 credit class) impact their GPA less than a 90% in Algebra (a 1.0 credit class). Thank you so much again for your time!!
