Deleting a gift entry from Web View
Is there a way to delete a gift entry that was originally entered via Web View?

- query on the gift in database view and use global delete
- SKY API DELETE gift endpoint
I have a detail reply on another post sometime ago, maybe try searching the forum

@Lisa Madden - You can also employ this work around:
1. Create a brand new constituent record in RE.2. In Web View, move the gift record onto the new constituent record.
3. In Database View, open the new constituent record and confirm the gift is located on it; then delete the brand new constituent record.

That's a new one. Didn't know you can delete a constituent record that has gift record on it. Will give it a try. Thanks.1 -

Some good suggestions here, but if it is a single gift just go to database view and delete it. Very straightforward.
The only part I WOULD consider is whether it should be deleted or adjusted. I've certainly had instances where gifts need to be deleted, but adjustments can leave valuable breadcrumbs behind if needed!

A gift created on webview, or webview gift batch, the DELETE option on the File menu of the gift record is grayed out.

Aloha @Karen Diener. Just sharing my thoughts. You made a good point re: adjusting the gift rather than deleting it. In my old institution, we didn't have the option to delete but have the option to do mods or reversals on gifts/pledges. I also agree that having some type of audit trail or breadcrumbs is proven useful and valuable to someone who is looking at reports, recons, and gift campaign analysis. I was responsible for some of that and provided explanations to managers the movement of the gifts. Ideally, it would be great if there a robust mechanism for maintaining gifts in RE NXT.

Hi @Lisa Madden. We recently upgraded to RE NXT and was super excited to enter gifts in the web view but was disappointment to find out we can't delete so had to revert back to the database view for gift entries. I hope solution engineers can figure out a robust mechanism for maintaining gifts in RE NXT.

There were a few post a few months ago on this topic and there were extensive discussion over deleting of gift. Blackbaud holds the same thought as you and believe “why allow delete of gift”.However, there are plenty of situation where deleting gift is needed (we are specifically talking about gift that is NOT posted to FE or other financial systems).
- Test gift to test out certain functionality and at the end of the test, the gift can be deleted without messing up the constituent record
- human error on gift entry (i.e. gift type incorrect)
- web batch's gift that has “date added” messed up
- All RE web batch's gift has date added as when the “gift” is added to the web batch, NOT when the batch is committed.
- You can imagine this being an issue where web batch gift will always be “skipped” from processing (daily gift digest) as web batch's gift may not be committed (approved) the same day. (JustGiving gifts comes to mind)
- I correct this by using SKY API to delete the gifts created by the approval of the web batch and recreating it with the same info (fixed to our org coding standard). That way, the date added would be the same as the date of approved and therefore show up in daily gift processes.

I pretty much decided it is easier to take it to $0.00 and then notate the account as to why. Breadcrumbs………………0 -

I will post what I have in the community maybe in the coming weeks with instruction on doing this yourselves. I basically added a “button” to delete gift on the gift page. Obviously only approved staff can do it operation.

@Lisa Madden - that is what we also also did so total giving would reflect accurately in the constituent record.

I would agree with Karen about creating adjustments. Adjustments provide an audit trail and should also be sent to your Finance department. I was continually amazed at how many times I needed that adjustment trail to provide the backstory.1
