The 10/31 update talks about a Schedule Block change

The 10/31 BB EMS email included a blurb about how an update to a block for a class will not affect the history as there is attendance attached to the class/block combo. My question is how does one change the block without deleting the attendance (as the instructions in the KB direct you to do)? I happen to need to change the block for one day this week but having to delete the attendance since August to change change the block and then re-add the attendance doesn't seem worth a one time occurrence. Is there another way to do this?

Hi @Peggy Lehman - today's update was supposed to fix the ability to change the block (letter/number) that a particular class regularly meets in (per this post) - not anything to do with the daily schedule per se. I see it's not operational, though, so perhaps it didn't complete testing in time. Are you looking to make a change to the daily calendar? You refer to changing the block “for one day” so I wasn't sure; sounds like you just need to change the time that the block meets on one day in the daily schedule calendar - unless I'm misunderstanding.

@David Gillespie Yes, it was actually just for today. The class meets only once per week and the change was only for this week. The block would have then changed back to the original. The teacher was just looking for a way to put it on their Google calendar since we refresh it daily.

I don't recall the block being unchangeable in the past, but I can honestly say the need never arose previously.

@Peggy Lehman Yup, you're right - a while back it wasn't unchangeable but then they “fixed” the problem with orphaned attendance by locking the block. So hopefully soon we'll be able to change it again because they now just save the old block with the old attendance.

@Peggy Lehman - Take a look at Academics > Scheduling > Requests and schedules > Class Schedule. That allows you to modify the schedule for a single section.

Click the Cycle link to modify the master schedule for the section.

Click View to see the day-by-day meeting calendar for the section, and click Edit on any day to modify it. You can use this to add a meeting to a day that the class wasn't scheduled to meet, cancel a scheduled meeting (or do both to change the time that a class meets on a particular day).

Hi all!

We did take an extra day or two for some final QA testing before releasing the changes to unlock the blocks on the Manage Classes modal and the Set Section info page. As of 11/2, classes where attendance has already been taken can have the block edited again.
The area Brian pointed out is still the best for one-off day changes, whereas the Manage Classes and Set Section Info pages will allow for those permanent changes to the class for all future days.
