Nightly Back-up - error opening .BAK file

Good morning,

I recently purchased the Raiser's Edge nightly back-up. Our IT team is having trouble writing the script to open up the encrypted file.

This is the error we are getting:

; the file (.bak) that we are downloading as part of the Nightly Backup process is encrypted and we cannot restore it. When attempting to restore we receive the following message; “Cannot find server certificate with thumbprint 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX'. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Framework Microsoft SqlClient Data Provider) (I put the X's over the numbers.)

Does anyone know what we are doing wrong? Thank you! Margaret Williams

@Margaret Williams, were you able to get this resolved? If so, what was the resolution?

  • @Carlene Johnson - our problem was a combination of our IT group trying to use my Blackbaud ID instead of their own. We can manually download the .bak file now - very easy and straight forward.

Automating the download is still a problem. Blackbaud is on Azure which does not allow you to use an automated process using SFTP. So we had to use another approach. I don't remember what our two options are called with Azure (I am not a member of the IT department). Our IT department picked one of the options for Azure but there is now a problem with our firewall…
