Teacher Course Recommendations: Is there a way to show all courses for upcoming year? (not by term)

We're planning to use teacher course recommendations for the first time this year, so I'm working on the setup and testing now. We have some courses that are only offered in the fall and others that are only offered in the spring (subject to change). During the teacher course recommendation period, I thought teachers would be able to see ALL of the upcoming year's courses (in their department) in the New Recommendation dropdown for a student, but it looks like they only see the courses offered in the selected Signup Period term; they would need to change the term dropdown (for example) from fall to spring to see the spring classes.

Is this intended Blackbaud behavior? It doesn't make sense since at this point, we're only interested in which course(s) the teachers recommend, not when the students might take them, and it seems like an extra step for the teachers. I may be missing something though, so thought I'd check with the community. :) How do others handle this? Do you just instruct teachers that they may need to change the Signup Period dropdown for each student? It seems like extra work for them so wanted to see if there's a better way to handle. Thanks!

  • @Erin Caprielian Have you set the dates in Course Request Setup for both terms? Also, is the “Offer Courses” tab set up for both terms to reflect what's being offered? I've not heard of this being an issue, so I'm wondering if it's a setting.

  • @Michael Clark Thanks for your reply! I have set the dates for both and the courses have been offered in the “Offer Courses” tab for next year as they are currently planned (some courses only offered in fall and some only offered in Spring). The teachers will be able see the spring classes if they switch the Signup Period dropdown to 3rd quarter, but that's an extra step (and training) that I was hoping to avoid if possible, and just let the teachers see all of the available classes (in the dept) for a student next year.

  • @Erin Caprielian I think that is how it works. I agree, not ideal for teachers!

  • @Erin Caprielian We do instruct teachers to change the term dropdown to find courses to recommend that do not begin in the first term. Luckily we don't have many courses like that, but I do wish we didn't have to do it this way. I know some course recommendations get missed.
