Archiving Custom Fields/Attributes

We have a ton of old data in the Custom Fields/Attributes section of the constituent profile that is no longer useful/doesn't make much sense in the current way we operate. Is there a way to archive this as opposed to deleting it? Or a workaround for the lack of ability to archive this (such as creating a backup .csv and then deleting)?

In general, some constituents have 5+ pages of custom fields and it's hard to sift through them every time to find the ones we currently use. However, we don't want to lose the data in case we need it in the future.

@Violet Karcher - I would create a back-up file for each custom field you want to delete and what appears currently on constituent records, then go ahead and delete said custom field. Make sure you store the back-up file in a secure location.

you cannot mark attribute/custom fields as inactive to “archive”.

You can use dbview > admin > import to create an export of the attributes.. save it as a csv and then delete from RE NXT

  • @Violet Karcher Should any of those old attributes/custom fields actually be stored somewhere else in RE? If so, I would recommend that the data be relocated to the correct location in the system.
