Course Requests: Can't see Course Codes

Has anyone else run into the issue of trying to enter/update Course Requests from a student's profile but being unable to distinguish between two courses because the Course Code is not displayed? We have several courses that have the same Course Title (for transcript purposes) but different internal course codes, so it's important to ensure that the request entered/changed/deleted is for the correct course.

I confirmed with Support that the course code won't display here, and voted on an existing Idea (K12OR-I-115) but was curious if others are struggling with this issue, especially during this time of preparing for the next school year. I'm aware of the ability to use Scheduling > Course Requests > More Actions > Enter Requests and search by course code that way (although the code disappears immediately after selecting it in the search box), but it seems like unnecessary work. Are there any other workarounds others have used in the meantime?

@Erin Caprielian We have the same issue with shared course names. For example, we have a course called English (for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12), but the course codes are ENL1W, ENG2D, ENG3U and ENG4U. The solution that worked best for us was including the course code in the course title. time-consuming We've done it for all courses we offer and it made it easier for everyone. Teachers appreciated having the course code visible from their Classes tab so they could quickly distinguish one course from another. It was a bit time-consuming to update course titles , but it definitely made things easier in the long run. One note, we do not create transcripts using Blackbaud so, if you do, this suggestion may not work for you.

  • @Shirley Wagar Thank you for your reply! We do use Blackbaud for transcripts, and for several reasons we do not want course codes visible to students and parents, so I'm not sure this will work for our situation but I'm glad it has for you! I'm hoping Blackbaud will make the update in future to include this in the various Course Request views.
