Building schedules where some courses change daily but others stay the same every day

Hello again hive mind! I feel like this should be easier than I've found so far, so I wanted to ask if any of you have any ideas.

A couple of our JH campuses are small enough that their schedules are generally the same for the first part of the day: 1st period is math for 6th and literature for 7th, 2nd is history for 6th and math for 7th, and so on. I have that part down for the first 7 periods of the day. Those courses are all the same, all five days of the week, and they're on a single schedule set.

Where I'm running into issues is 8th period, where we have “electives” – which really are a rotation of courses; everyone takes the same ones, just on a different schedule by homeroom:

Homeroom A: art Monday, speech and debate Tuesday, PE Wed/Fri, chorus Thursday
Homeroom B: chorus Monday, PE Tues/Thurs, art Wednesday, speech and debate Friday

The only way I've been able to figure out to do this is to have seven separate schedule sets for the electives, one for each day and one for each of the PE double days. This seems a little over the top and I'm wondering if there isn't an easier way. Any ideas?

  • @Brian LeBlanc
For my lower and middle school I have two schedule sets and one of them is a random schedule where the rotation definition is set Per section. I use it for those classes that don't have a set block schedule. I will tell you it is a little more tedious with the scheduling but it allows the courses to be schedule at different times and days. Hope that helps.

  • @Sheila Long thank you! I had tried this earlier and what was throwing me is that it still displays all days, even though it's only scheduling on certain days:

So, in this case, this is Homeroom B's PE class that meets Tuesday (day 2) and Thursday (day 4). Since the Meeting Time column lists every day of the week, I had thought it was scheduling all five days and it was going to double- and triple-schedule every elective course. Doesn't look like that's the case though, so thanks again!!
