What are Bank Security Groups and what ability does being in one give users???

Is there a video or training or simply an explanation as to what Bank Security Groups even do? I see a lot of instructions on how to edit or change them, but no idea what they are used for. Are they necessary to have? What's the benefit of a bank security group? In general, who on a financial services team should have access or be included in these groups?

@Katy Ripp Hi Katy! I am assuming you are talking about this article? Bank security groups are used to create security groups based off bank accounts. Here is an example - maybe you just want data entry folks to be able to view/edit a few bank accounts (this is from my demo database).

@Blake Paradise Hi! Thank you. I'm still confused. What is meant by, “This ensures users access only the bank accounts you specify”? What are they accessing exactly? Access to edit/view bank account information? Access to just process payments from those accounts? We have basically everyone in our department in a group and so does that mean they can all see the bank accounts page and process payments? Should only those that have payment processing job duties be the ones with this access?

@Katy Ripp Hi Katy! The bank security just allows you to specify if you want users to be able to view or edit those bank accounts (or CC accounts). This is in tandem with security roles. For example, you could give access to someone to these permissions below but that would only apply to the accounts you have given them access to view/edit. You may want someone to be able to process invoices using your checking account, but you don't want them to view your payroll account.

@Blake Paradise Thank you! I'll take a look at the course you sent. One follow up question though….In order to process invoices on say a checking account, does that user have to have access to that bank account then through this role? Thanks Again!

@Blake Paradise Hi again. I think this is clicking now. I see we can give them view OR edit access, so we're going to try giving our AP processing team just view access and make sure they can still do everything they need to process checks. I don't see any need for anyone else in the organization to be able to view or edit the bank accounts, so I'm removing from their access all together. Thanks Again!
