How to Dismiss Tags

Hi community! My organization does not write off certain pledges, but instead terminates the pledges to indicate that they are not going to be fulfilled. However, this means that RE NXT still applies the “Overdue Pledge" tag to that constituent. According to a KB article the tags can be “dismissed," but I'm not seeing that option anywhere. The KB article:

Thanks!

@Clarissa Rice Hampton I think they mean you can ignore it. “The tag process does not exclude Terminated or Cancelled pledges for Overdue Pledges."

In the info on tags it suggests other ways to handle gift so there is no tag.

We prefer not to use write-off but adjust pledge to amount paid - makes for more accurate query, reporting and lifetime giving totals.

@Clarissa Rice Hampton - I recommend you check out the RE NXT Idea Bank and make sure this is represented. Developers look to the Idea Bank for areas of the system they should improve.

As stated, I think the word “dismiss” just means for you to dismiss it, not for the system to dismiss it.

I don't know why you would just terminate the pledge rather than write off or adjustment. Might want to talk to your finance folks about that. Depending on finance practices, if the original full pledge amount was posted to financial system or not, the write off becomes the “reversal” of that.

@JoAnn Strommen the way write off is accounted for depends on which module you use in RE. Query summary of information (constituent query) will reduce amount given by constituent if there is write off, while Export module will keep the amount. Depending on the intent of the report needed, original pledged amount and its write off may be of use to the reporting.

@Alex Wong That may be the case but until someone is very alert to notice difference, one may be using incorrect figures.

I am still a proponent of adjusting over write offs. One reason is how gifts display on records as payments when it is written off. Entered pledge of $100K and wrote off $50K. When a development staff member is looking at the record and doesn't dig in deep. It looks like pledge is still for full amount and that $50K has been paid. :) (No overdue tag either)

Yup, blackbaud should have made it a lot clearer and straight in your face clarity. But unfortunately not the case.

Our org record the whole pledge as contribution and post to FE with it. if pledge is still in a financially “open” year, we do adjustment too. However, most of time when we do write off is when the year pledge is posted is closed, we cannot adjust the pledge's amount anymore, finance rule as it is posted and included in the Form 990 numbers. Write off of prior year's financially closed year pledge is consider “expense” in the finance book.
