Limit course requests?

How do other schools limit course requests, particularly for those courses which we know we can offer only one or two sections? In other words, how do we prevent 50 students from requesting a course that we know can only accommodate 25? There is a max # requests field on the course record but that does not seem to limit the number of course requests that can be made. Help!

    @Sarah Herrick We don't limit the number of requests for any given course since we know there are going to be classes that get more requests that we have capacity for. Students know that this is a possibility when requesting classes and that the system randomly schedules the classes. It is also helpful for us to know what classes are popular when it comes time for section planning in the future.
